Last weekend we were at the 67th Fira de la Puríssima in Sant Boi , a fair with a long tradition that brought together more than 400 exhibitors and featured over 50 activities . Reindesa ‘s stand was located in the administrative area, and although it was cold, the warmth of the atmosphere was the highlight. Among all the activities, there were talks about managing rehabilitation projects, and we were joined by Sergi Marín, a comedian from Sant Boi, who had us all laughing. In addition, Reindesa is raffling off a set of pool products plus a pool technical inspection (ITP ), and the winner will be announced later this week. Stay tuned!

More tips: saline electrolysis for swimming pools
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9rr3i8GZOAg&time_continue=0&source_ve_path=NzY3NTg&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reindesa.com%2F Pool Cleaning vs. Disinfection: Two of the most important aspects of maintaining a swimming pool are cleaning and disinfection . There are many methods, robots, and gadgets for cleaning a pool , and we’ll discuss them at another time. We also have many options for disinfecting our pool: traditional chlorine, bromine, UVA (ultraviolet) light, salt electrolysis, oxygen, etc. Reindesa recommends one system or another to its clients depending on the circumstances, environment, or characteristics of the pool. Of all the disinfection methods , saline electrolysis may be the most widely used in recent years. What is saline electrolysis? Disinfecting water with “natural salt” instead of “chemical chlorine” is one of the disinfection methods used for treating swimming pool water . If you want to find out, don’t miss our video or check out the tips section on our website. Electrolysis consists of simulating the behavior of the sea in your pool. We lightly salt the water by adding common salt to your pool, in a proportion nine times less than that of salt in the sea, in a proportion similar to that of a tear. The chlorination cell carries out the electrolysis process by which salt (NaCl) is transformed into sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) dissolved in water, which is a powerful disinfectant that destroys all microorganisms that may be present in the water. The cell will automatically generate the free chlorine needed for your pool without needing to add anything other than salt to the water. Water disinfection through the electrolysis process It’s one of the most widely used disinfection systems today. It’s a machine that can be installed in any existing or newly constructed swimming pool. The saline electrolysis process: salt for swimming pools The idea and process are very simple. This pool disinfection technique is based on adding salt to the pool. The amount: Approximately 5 kg per cubic meter. Or, in other words, 5 grams per liter . The water has a salty taste, like a tear. But the taste of the salt will be barely noticeable since it is seven times less intense than that of seawater. The prices of saline chlorination We will have to make an initial investment, but we will not take long to recover it since we will not have to buy any type of chlorine or disinfectant for the pool. The device itself generates the salt disinfectant for the pool . Therefore, the only expense associated with a salt electrolysis system is purchasing the salt itself: carrying around two or three bags of salt a couple of times a year . Pool salt: the advantages of saline electrolysis – Home production of disinfectant. We have our own chlorine “factory” at home, which saves us a significant amount of money each year. – Self-regulating : The RP probe measures the amount of chlorine the pool needs at any given time. The more swimmers, the more disinfectant is required. It’s an automatic system that disinfects your pool water without the need for monitoring or adding any chemicals. – pH controller included : the machine already includes the pH controller and meter , so there’s no need to buy any additional equipment. You can visit our article “How to measure the pH of a swimming pool?” . – No irritation : to skin, hair, or clothing. It is odorless, does not irritate the eyes, and does not dry out the skin. – We avoid buying chemical products . You can be away for several days, even weeks, and you will find the pool perfect just as you left it. Reindesa installed the first salt electrolysis device in 1990 and since then demand has continued to grow, making this device an almost indispensable helper for the care of your swimming pool .
Water parks at the BCN International Swimming Pool Show 2013
The BCN 2013 International Swimming Pool Show opens tomorrow. This year , Piscina BCN is evolving, integrating three markets into a single event: Swimming Pools, Wellness, and Sport & Leisure Facilities . The novelty this year comes from this last category, which is focusing on water parks. The show will host the first edition of the Waterpark Symposium under an agreement signed with the World Waterpark Association (WWA) , a forum in which international experts in the field of water parks will participate, such as Roger Currie, sales director of the construction company Neuman Aqua Ltd. (United Kingdom); Frederic Bouvard, president and CEO of the leisure and fitness center Splashworld (United Kingdom); Damien Latham, operations director of the entertainment holding company Majid Al Futtaim (Dubai); Sean Hinton, vice president of the company Whitewater West Industries (Canada), and Faustino Costa, export director of the pumping systems construction company Herborner Pumpenfabrik LH Hoffmann (Germany). This is an industry with a growing presence in Spain . Water parks began to be established in the 1980s and registered high annual growth rates until 2011. Despite the economic crisis and the consequent decrease in leisure spending by Spanish families, the water park sector maintained a turnover of €136 million in 2012 (DBK Sectoral Studies Agency, May 2013). According to experts, there is currently a notable surge of interest in water parks, especially in southern Spain, where campsites and hotels are incorporating these structures, designed specifically for the leisure and entertainment of their guests. October 17th will be the day dedicated to this sector with the Waterpark Symposium . You can check the program on the event’s website . We’re definitely going!

We leave you with the synchronized swimming routine that earned a silver medal for the team. The ‘combo’ led by Ona Carbonell achieved a score of 94.620 to secure second place.
Cinema and swimming pools: the most refreshing (and turbulent) combination
The blog of the newspaper El País has launched a new section: Summer Film Club , and it kicks off with a selection of three films featuring swimming pools. There are many films about swimming pools throughout cinematic history, but this selection shows how the pool can be a place of dreams, encounters, but also, heartache. Here are the three films they recommend: The swimming pool Director: Jacques Deray. Screenplay: Jean Claude Carrière. Cast: Alain Delon, Romy Schneider, Maurice Ronet and Jane Birkin. France-Italy, 1969. Romy Schneider and Alain Delon, in a scene from The Swimming Pool. A blinding light in the sky and clear, blue waters lapping at the bottom. The sun-kissed body of a young, dark-haired man, lying dozing beside a pool. In the background, a deep green landscape. The heat of that summer is visible in the beads of sweat on his bare skin. A languid hand stirs the water in the pool. With these images begins the film *La Piscine* (The Swimming Pool), a film that blends thriller, drama, and love. More than love, perhaps, passion and eroticism. Perhaps the same passion that Alain Delon and Romy Schneider experienced for years in real life. At 34 and 31 years old respectively, and undeniably beautiful, Delon and Schneider, both then at the peak of their film careers, become the focus of this intense story, which today, almost 44 years after its release, can be viewed with absolute serenity. The film tells the story of Jean-Paul and Marianne’s peaceful vacation at a villa near St. Tropez. Everything is going perfectly until Marianne invites her former lover Harry, an old friend of Jean-Paul’s, and his daughter Penelope to spend a few days at the house. Soon, tension begins to rise among the four, and beneath a veneer of cordiality, an atmosphere of jealousy and suspicion develops. Penelope, played by a very young and beautiful Jane Birkin, attracts Jean-Paul’s attention and the ire of the other two characters. The images of the pool – “it’s the best thing about the house,” Jean-Paul tells Harry when he arrives, “there are many where everything is allowed, or almost” – with its love affairs, fights and even death, are the center of this film that was a great success in France and that premiered in Spain with some scenes cut. Swimming pool Director: François Ozon. Screenplay: François Ozon and Emmanuéle Bernheim. Performers: Charlotte Rampling, Ludivine Sagnier and Charles Dance. France / United Kingdom. 2003. What is it about this young, brash girl that obsesses and shakes the composure and seriousness of a mature English writer struggling with writer’s block? A blend of fiction and reality (the truth is only revealed at the end), *Swimming Pool *, which retained its English title to avoid conflict with the Spanish title * La piscina *, tells the story of a successful English crime novelist (Charlotte Rampling, 58) who travels to France, to the Luberon region, to her publisher’s home in search of inspiration. One night, her publisher’s French daughter (Ludivine Sagnier, 24) arrives at the house and shatters the novelist’s peace. Filmed in English and French, this film marks a departure for François Ozon (Paris, 1967), one of France’s most celebrated directors, from his more theatrical and artificial style to an intimate exploration of how inspiration strikes. How does it occur? When does it arrive? Does it move you? What is clear is that in Swimming Pool , the novelist, devoid of ideas, experiences a rebirth of inspiration with the initially disastrous arrival of a sensual and sexual young woman. And once again, the swimming pool becomes another of the film’s main characters. It’s the meeting place for the two women. It’s a space of freedom and sexuality, a screen where everyone projects their inner demons. Although the film lacks the freshness of some of Ozon’s other titles and can be somewhat tedious at times, it’s undeniably watchable. Charlotte Rampling won the Best Actress award at the European Film Awards for this role. Secret games Director: Todd Field. Starring: Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Connelly. United States, 2006. The swimming pool appears rather late in the film, but it’s there that love and fear simmer. Directed by Stanley Kubrick’s collaborator Todd Field, and featuring a truly stellar cast, Little Children is a powerful and unsettling drama in which several people from a small, seemingly idyllic American town cross paths casually and dangerously in swimming pools and parks. Many stories populate the narrative of this film, reflecting the clash between a backward and fearful society and one seeking to break free from those chains. The pool in Little Children (its original title) is not, as in the previous two films, a private place, but a large municipal swimming pool, overflowing with noisy children and hysterical mothers. It is in this corner that a bored mother (Kate Winslet) searches for her immature, still-student father (Patrick Wilson), and where a pedophile, recently released from prison, reappears, wearing his goggles and wearing athletic gear, ready to continue “admiring” the beardless bodies of boys and girls underwater. Todd Field (California, United States, 1964), who began his acting career in Ruby in Paradise and continued with Eyes Wide Shut (Kubrick), is also the director of In the Room. Go to the original link
Comprehensive pool renovation in Santa Cristina d’Aro
We recently completed the full renovation of a swimming pool that was over 40 years old . The 10 x 5 meter pool, 3 meters deep, was in poor condition; the basin had cracks and was leaking a lot of water. With water and cost savings in mind , we proposed reducing the pool’s depth to 2.10 meters. This would also result in savings on chemicals and maintenance, as well as a slight increase in water temperature during the summer. Below, we show you, step by step, the process we have followed at Reindesa for its rehabilitation: – First we break up the terrace and demolish a short side of 5 meters and extend the pool by 2 meters more to obtain a pool of 12 x 4.70 meters. – We raised the floor and carried out a new shotcrete application inside the basin. We took the opportunity to install lighting in the pool. To substantially improve the light and drastically reduce energy consumption , we installed LED spotlights instead of the traditional halogen lamp. – We redo the entire plumbing and filtration system with ten atmosphere pressure pipes and sections suitable for updated filtration. – We concreted the terrace and the crown and repaved it with a rustic handmade piece . – Finally , we lined the pool with white Reviglass mosaic tiles. The result, as you can see, is spectacular, and we are very happy and proud of the entire rehabilitation process of this old swimming pool, which now looks brand new!

World swimming championships, Olympic-themed venues for BCN 2013
On July 19th, after a 10-year hiatus, Barcelona is once again preparing to host the World Swimming Championships BCN 2013. Below is a list of all the pools where the different events will take place: Headquarters and facilities: The city of Barcelona is making its existing facilities, as well as those that hosted the 1992 Olympic Games and the 2003 FINA World Swimming Championships, available to FINA and the Organizing Committee. The proximity of the various competition venues (a 10-minute walk between them), located within Barcelona’s Olympic Ring , facilitates the movement of participating athletes and spectators. New this year, the World Swimming Championships will include the nearby Moll de la Fusta as a venue for open water swimming events. Synchronized swimming trials Palau Sant Jordi The crown jewel of the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games, the Palau Sant Jordi is a multi-purpose venue that has hosted a multitude of events, from concerts to major sporting events. The building, designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, will once again host the swimming events, as it did in 2003, this time adding synchronized swimming. The state-of-the-art pool will allow more than 12,000 people to watch the swimmers compete live . Water polo Bernat Picornell Municipal Sports Center Swimming Pools The relocation of the water polo competition to the Montjuïc Olympic Ring is one of the new features of the 2013 FINA World Championships compared to 2003. This decision allows all the competitions to be grouped in a smaller space, facilitating the movement of athletes and spectators. In this way, a microcosm will be created on the magical Montjuïc mountain where swimming and competition can be experienced with all five senses . With the installation of additional stands, a capacity of approximately 5,000 people is expected, giving this sport all the importance it deserves, especially in Barcelona. Open water Moll de la Fusta It’s one of the major new features of the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona and a reflection of the city’s commitment to bringing the competition closer to all its residents . With a completely urban open water course, this event will be an opportunity for Barcelona to achieve unprecedented popular success in races held on the city’s natural balcony overlooking the sea, allowing fans to become part of the spectacle. Jumps Montjuïc Municipal Swimming Pool An unparalleled vantage point overlooking Barcelona , this legendary facility provided some of the most beautiful and unforgettable images of the 1992 Olympic Games. As it did then, the Montjuïc Municipal Swimming Pool will once again host the diving events, offering some of the most stunning snapshots in the history of this sport. It has a seating capacity of 4,000 .

Les Bains des Docks by Jean Nouvel
Les Bains des Docks is an aquatic center in Le Havre, France , designed by architect Jean Nouvel . The center measures 5000 square meters and consists of 12 swimming pools , including an outdoor pool of 50 x 21 meters, a sauna , hammam , spa and fitness room . The interior is covered with white mosaic tiles and brightly colored foam blocks for the children’s area. ” It’s a paradox, a building with the scale of a port, inspiring simplicity and robustness, which betrays its complexity the moment one enters its volumes ,” says Nouvel. ” One enters a deep, white universe .” The center opened in July of last year and is part of a general plan to regenerate the entire port area . The following information comes from Jean Nouvel: AQUATIC CENTER The Aquatic Center comprises three main areas : a 50-meter-long, 20-meter-wide outdoor heated lap pool , an indoor/outdoor play pool , and a spa . Access is through a single reception area that leads to either the changing rooms for the play and lap pools or the changing rooms for the spa. On the same floor, visitors can access other suspended beaches and two more suspended pools from the play pools. An internal connection links all these pools for visitors with a specific pass. The cardio-training center and its changing rooms, the administration office with a separate entrance, and free access to the cafeteria are all located on the same floor and are directly connected to the lobby. Access to the facilities located beneath the beaches is via a light well at the rear of the building. via Dezeen
London Aquatics Centre 2012
Athletes such as the renowned Michael Phelps and the Catalan Mireia Belmonte have swum in its waters, whom we congratulate on her well-deserved silver medal, because for the Olympic Games everything has to be excellent and of course, its pools could not be any less. The aquatic center , designed by architect Zaha Hadid , has a capacity of 17,500 people and features an undulating roof covering the competition and diving pools, as well as the main hall. The third pool, intended for training, is located beneath the Stratford City Bridge, and its building harmonizes with the curves of the main venue. Additional wings have been added for the Games to provide extra seating , but these will be removed after the Olympics. Photographers Hufton + Crow took these stunning photographs of the entire venue, where we can also see the trampolines that protrude naturally, respecting the undulating shapes of the ceiling above them. Quite a masterpiece! via Dezeen

Reindesa swimming pool featured in Interiors magazine
One of our swimming pools is featured (and graces the cover) of this month’s Interiores magazine . It’s an Ibiza-style pool , tile-free and covered with polished white concrete. Located on the edge of a cliff with exceptional sea views , its construction was quite a challenge, but we completed it with an impeccable result that we are very pleased with. Below are some images from Interiores magazine :
Swimming pool cocktail, the summer dream.
Summer is here, and we can’t imagine being anywhere but relaxing by the pool , far from the sweltering city and its worries. During the day, we’d bask in the sun, reading the latest Jonathan Franzen novel and waiting for friends to arrive for vermouth in the shade of a poolside shed. We’d take a refreshing dip every half hour and watch as the sun gradually sets until that magnificent moment when the sky transforms into a vibrant palette of violets and oranges. It’s then, before nightfall, that what we crave most is a refreshing cocktail to the rhythm of BB King . And what better way to accompany our sunset than with the Swimming Pool cocktail ? Below you will find the recipe: Ingredients 3 parts white rum . 2 parts vodka . 4 parts coconut cream. 2 parts of liquid cream. 10 parts of pineapple juice. 1 part of blue Curaçao . Preparation Mix and stir all the ingredients except the blue Curaçao in a glass with ice, or mix them in a cocktail shaker. Strain the liquid into a glass with ice. Slowly pour the appropriate amount of blue Curaçao into the glass, so that the drink will turn blue. Place a piece of pineapple in the glass and a straw if desired. Variations It can be prepared with coconut milk (not to be confused with the juice inside the coconut), or with mangaroca. You can substitute white rum with more vodka and vice versa. Liquid cream can be an optional ingredient. At Reindesa we want to wish you a happy summer and raise a toast to your health with this Swimmin Pool cocktail. Happy and idyllic summer!

We already have “Xop” the mascot of the 2013 World Swimming Championships
Last week, at an event with the president of the Catalan Swimming Federation (FCN), Enric Bertran; the president of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN), Fernando Carpena; the swimmer Gemma Mengual, and the fourth deputy mayor and head of Sports, Maite Fandos, the mascot that will represent the World Swimming Championships next year was presented. Its name is ” Xop, ” a Catalan word meaning “soaked,” and its skin is inspired by traditional Gaudí mosaics , which are made up of different fragments of varied shapes and colors. The committee has described it as “a very Barcelonan and Mediterranean mascot that conveys the values of sport very well, especially among children.” The mascot was designed by Albert Mir from Menorca and won a public competition organized by the Barcelona 2013 Organizing Committee, which received over two hundred entries. “I thought of a drop of water because it’s the main element of a water-based event, and Gaudí as Barcelona’s greatest architectural icon,” explains the winner. At the next gala of the Catalan Swimming Federation we will be able to see Xop in his first public appearance.

The Blue Lagoon of Iceland
Iceland is a land rich in volcanoes, glaciers, lava flows, and waterfalls. Geothermal water is abundant in the country, offering its inhabitants great opportunities to benefit from its properties. The Blue Lagoon (Icelandic: Bláa lónið) is a geothermal spa located in southwest Iceland. It is one of the country’s most visited attractions, where the steamy waters are part of a lava formation. It was discovered by chance in the late 1970s and is now world-renowned for the medicinal properties of its waters, especially for the treatment of psoriasis. It is an artificial lake that is fed by water from the Svartsengi geothermal power plant, located 200 meters deep in the earth, at a temperature of 240 degrees Celsius. But without a doubt, the most attractive thing about the Blue Lagoon is the exceptional setting in which it is located, surrounded by volcanic rocks, the azure blue of the sky and water, and columns of smoke that rise up around it; a unique and spectacular landscape.

Swimming pool Morning Glory in Yellowstone
Without a doubt, nature is its best architect; one example of this is the exceptional natural pool located in Yellowstone National Park in the United States. The distinctive yellow color of the hot springs pool is due to a bacteria that lives in the water. The name Morning Glory was given to it by E. N. McGowan, the wife of the park’s assistant at the time, in 1883, referring to its resemblance to the morning glory flower.

Reindesa Annual Summary 2011
Always focused on moving forward, it’s sometimes difficult to fully appreciate everything that has been achieved so far. Looking back, 2011 has brought Reindesa new challenges, some changes, and major projects. – At the beginning of the year, we faced a challenge: to build a wellness center for the Metropolitan gym chain on the 4th floor of the former bullring and current Las Arenas shopping center, with the added complication of being located above a multiplex cinema. It was a project we undertook with great enthusiasm, and it bore fruit in the pool hall with the recognition awarded at the 2011 Piscina Bcn Awards. Our desire to communicate and connect with our customers drove us to take the leap into social media. July was the month we finally decided to speak and listen through Twitter, Facebook, and WordPress, gaining over 600 followers in just five months and eager to continue growing with you. We took advantage of August, the quietest month of the year, to move to new facilities in Barcelona, with over 100m² of indoor and 150m² of outdoor showroom space, where we can design all your custom projects. It’s a space where we offer direct, personalized service—a small change and a significant investment in our clients’ well-being. – New sustainability solutions have increased our commitment to the environment and at the end of the year we entered the ecological swimming pool sector using alternative methods such as natural purification with biological filtration carried out with plants that give added aesthetic value and the application of TeichMeister technology. We can say that we are proud of our 2011 and we are starting 2012 eager to continue moving forward. To all of you, we wish a prosperous 2012
Merry christmas
The world’s largest swimming pool
While it may seem difficult to definitively determine which is the world’s largest swimming pool, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, it is located in Algarrobo, Chile, and measures over 1 km in length. It is an artificial lagoon situated in the San Alfonso del Mar hotel complex, covering an area of approximately 8 hectares and containing more than 250,000 cubic meters (tons) of seawater.

Homestead Crater
Hidden in a crater in Midway, Utah, is a pool built in a very peculiar setting. It’s a natural limestone crater 18 meters high with water at a temperature of 32°C. The top of the hole allows fresh air and sunlight to enter, while the interior is kept warm by the mineral water. Taking advantage of this natural phenomenon, the crater was adapted for human use. A tunnel was created through the rock face to the ground, and covered areas and a diving zone were built to provide access to the crystal-clear water. Visitors can swim, dive, or enjoy a therapeutic bath. The crater formed about 10,000 years ago. Water from the Wasatch Mountains ice seeped deep underground. At 3,200 meters below ground, the water was heated and forced to the surface. As it rose, minerals were trapped, creating the honeycomb-shaped deposit we now know as Homestead Crater. This is a good example of a swimming pool that has adapted to nature and taken advantage of it to make it accessible to people. http://www.reindesa.com/blog/2011/11/homested-crater/

Reindesa in “el Convidat” on TV3
The latest episode of El Convidat , a TV3 program presented by Albert Om , was dedicated to Benedetta Tagliabue , an Italian architect based in Barcelona and wife of the architect Enric Miralles . Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Miralles’ death, Albert Om introduces us to Benedetta in an exceptional setting: her home. One would expect nothing less from an architect-designed house than for it to be unique and charming. From minute 22 onwards, the interview continues in a very special room, where you can watch a film on a large screen while enjoying a swim in the pool that Reindesa had the opportunity to build. An atmosphere that exudes tranquility and relaxation.

9/11 Memorial
Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the fall of the Twin Towers in New York, the city is preparing the inauguration of the 9/11 memorial at ground zero. Dedicated to the victims of the attack, the structure designed by architects Michael Arad and Peter Walker consists of a tranquil, tree-lined area with two enormous waterfalls cascading into two square pools located on the site of the former Twin Towers. Each pool measures approximately 5,000 square meters and is surrounded by inscriptions bearing the names of the deceased. They are currently the tallest artificial waterfalls in North America. The plaza surrounding the waterfalls has been named one of the most ecological in the world because it has irrigation, rainwater and pest management systems that conserve energy and water. The space will be open to the public, but due to ongoing construction in the surrounding area, passes are required for entry. Reservations opened at 9:00 a.m. on July 11th, and more than 11,000 passes were reserved within just a few hours. Even so, it is expected that once the novelty wears off, the memorial will become a peaceful haven for New Yorkers. via inhabitat
WATERWORLD in China
We continue our collection of extraordinary swimming pools with this spectacular project, winner of an international design competition by the Atkins Group . Located in a quarry in Songjiang, China, the hotel, nestled within a water-filled quarry, is built with careful consideration of the surrounding natural elements, blending seamlessly into the landscape. It boasts 400 rooms, some of which are surprisingly located underwater. In its waterfront area, it has a luxury swimming pool and a center for extreme sports such as free climbing and bungee jumping, which is built on the quarry and can be accessed by elevators that rise from the water. via The Cool Hunter
Ship in Berlin
At Reindesa we love floating pools , and we’ve discovered another incredible one suitable for everyone: The trendy European city of Berlin is home to one of the most extraordinary swimming pools in one of the city’s most iconic locations. It’s called Badeschiff , a floating pool on the Spree River with an open-air bar, massages, yoga classes, concerts, parties, and even a sunbathing area with natural beach sand. Opened in 2004, the Badeschiff was conceived, designed and built by AMP Arquitectos , a studio based in Tenerife, WILK-SALINAS Architekten with Thomas Freiwald and the artist Susanne Lorenz at the ARENA BERLIN center. With a packed program of activities, the Badeschiff caters to all budgets, and admission is only €4. So, if you’re not on vacation yet and Berlin is your next destination, don’t miss the chance to take a break in such a unique spot. If you’re thinking of going in winter, the Badeschiff never ceases to amaze us with a system to cover it during the cold months (which are many in Germany) and allow you to enjoy a pleasant temperature, with a sauna area and an open-air area for the bravest.

Plus Pool in NY
If you live in Manhattan, on a sunny day and you feel like taking a bath, the last thing you’re going to think about is soaking in the waters of the Hudson River. This is what architect Dong-Ping Wong and designers Archie Lee Coates IV and Jeffrey Franklin had in mind. With a bold and innovative proposal, New Yorkers will be able to enjoy their river again without fear of the pollution that surrounds it. Featuring a filtration system and a modular, cross-shaped design, the Plus Pool is envisioned as a public swimming pool capable of transforming itself depending on the occasion. Composed of four interconnected modules in a cross shape, the pool is divided into four zones: Children’s Pool, Sports Pool, Lap Pool, and Lounge Pool. It can also be configured as an Olympic-size pool if each module is used from end to end. The Plus Pool is presented as a major innovation project. The engineering firm Arup has already contacted the trio of architects and designers to offer partial funding for the project. It is expected that this wonderful pool will be ready to enjoy in the summer of 2012. via gizmag
